Home Health Care
An "event" is a medical emergency like a stroke, fall, heart attack, or the onset of chronic disease that begins with a hospital stay. Most people don't think about Home Health Care until an "event" has occurred. Control my future today recommends you use the planning tool to understand your options prior to making critical decisions. When this type of life changing event occurs it helps if the older adult and family have considered and have chosen the hospital, physician(s), rehabilitation facility, and home care agency for the needed care. If you leave these decisions to later, significant family disruption happens as family members and relatives struggle to react to the emergency.
The Home Health agency you choose must be Medicare certified to perform the nursing, physical (basic movements), occupational therapy (fine motor skills) and speech pathology (cognitive ability) required. It helps if you have chosen an agency that offers private duty (fee for service) care when your Medicare therapy is complete. This continuum of care planning is an important part of control my future today.
